Concept of Healthy Living in Ayurveda

Ayurveda is derived from Sanskrit words – ‘Ayus’ meaning ‘life’ and ‘veda’ meaning ‘science’, so ayurveda translates into ‘Science of Life.’

In recent years, holistic health seekers have discovered the importance of Ayurveda for health. The primary principle of Ayurveda is the practice of mind-body connection. The balance of energies known as doshas is thought to be responsible for our health and well-being. The three doshas of Ayurveda are related to the elements of the universe, and each person typically inherits one dosha that is stronger than the others. The Vata dosha is associated with space and air, the Pitta dosha with fire and water, and the Kapha dosha with water and earth. Doshas are responsible for bodily functions, according to Ayurvedic principles. As a result, Ayurvedic practitioners devote themselves to balancing their doshas in the hope of maintaining their health.

Tuning into your mind and body, as taught by Ayurveda, can be a powerful tool for achieving both mental and physical well-being. Meditation and self-awareness can help manage stress and mental disorders like depression, while learning to respond to natural hunger and satiety signals can help prevent many lifestyle-related diseases like obesity and diabetes. Ayurvedic teachings emphasise the importance of a well-balanced diet.

Eating local, fresh, colourful, and properly prepared food, as well as achieving the six Ayurvedic tastes (sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter, and astringent), are all thought to promote health and longevity.

Ayurveda emphasises the importance of sleep in addition to tuning into your mind and body. Inadequate sleep is thought to disrupt the body’s balance and have a negative impact on health by increasing stress and impairing immune system function. While getting enough sleep and eating well are well-known ways to stay healthy, the Ayurvedic practice of “living in tune with nature” is less well-known. As per Ayurveda, we are created by nature and should therefore live in harmonious relationship with the natural rhythms of our bodies and the world we reside in. This entails connecting with your surroundings and the life that surrounds you. Developing a strong mind-body connection, tuning into your senses and desires, and living in the present moment mindfully may be the key to long-term health and happiness.

Introducing exercise in the form of yoga is extremely beneficial to one’s overall quality of life. Because our bodies are designed to move, if we do not get enough exercise, we become weak. Give your body something to do and avoid being sedentary.

This ancient ayurvedic system has thrived in the modern era because it still has a lot to offer the world.
